Simatic S7-300
SIMATIC S7-300 – Modular Automation System by Siemens
The SIMATIC S7-300 is a powerful PLC system for low to mid-range performance requirements, introduced in 1995 as the successor to the SIMATIC S5. It is mainly used in machine building and general automation applications.
The system has a modular design and consists of a central processing unit (CPU) with various performance levels – some with integrated I/Os and communication interfaces like PROFIBUS DP, PROFINET, or point-to-point connections.
The system is extended with:
- Signal modules (SM) for digital and analog I/Os
- Communication processors (CP) for bus and point-to-point communication
- Function modules (FM) for fast counting, positioning, and control
For safety-critical applications, the SIMATIC S7-300F offers a fail-safe version. Programming is carried out with STEP 7 or the TIA Portal (from version 11).
Although the S7-1500 was introduced as the successor in 2012, the S7-300 remains widely used in machines and systems due to its ongoing innovation and high reliability.
