SIMATIC S7-200 – Compact PLC by Siemens for Basic Automation
The SIMATIC S7-200 is a compact micro PLC from Siemens designed for a wide range of automation tasks – from simple relay replacement to more complex control systems in stand-alone mode, networked environments, or decentralized applications.
The product family includes five performance-graded base units with integrated I/Os and matching digital and analog expansion modules. Communication is supported via PPI, Profibus, or AS-Interface (with add-on modules).
Programming is carried out using S7-Microwin software in combination with a PPI adapter.
In 2001, Siemens introduced the updated 22x series, which is not compatible with the older 21x models. A key difference is the connector type: older = side black plug, newer = flat ribbon connector.
With the launch of the S7-1200 in 2009, Siemens began transitioning to a new PLC generation – but the S7-200 remains essential in many legacy systems.
